How SSELC teaches English to young learners

Every child enrolled at SSELC follows a structured English learning path designed for the language acquisition period — the years between birth and around age seven, when children's brains absorb new languages most easily. Here are the five core techniques we use.

1. Teaching through play

Children learn best when they're enjoying themselves. Our teachers don't stand at the front and lecture — they play with the children, in English. Group games, role-play, board games, songs — every activity layers in English vocabulary and pronunciation.

2. Daily English conversation in class

Children at SSELC don't just learn English during English period. We encourage them to use simple English phrases throughout the day — greeting each other, asking questions, asking for help. Day after day, English becomes a normal part of their school life.

3. Total Physical Response (TPR)

"Stand up." The children stand. "Touch your nose." They touch. This technique pairs language with body movement, anchoring vocabulary in muscle memory and engaging children who learn best by doing rather than listening.

4. Game-based vocabulary practice

Flashcards, word puzzles, picture-matching games — children love games and remember what they learn during play. Our teachers use these tools daily to make vocabulary practice the most fun part of the lesson.

5. Real-world conversations

"What are you doing this weekend?" The teacher poses a topic, the children pair up and discuss in English. Mistakes are noted afterward, never during. The point is to speak — fluency comes from speaking, not from worrying about correctness.
